Female Infanticide
About 12 million girls are born in India in a year. However 1
million of these babies die by the age of one. 1/3 of these deaths
take place soon after birth

Infanticide is still practised in many villages in rural India.
Methods vary from strangulation, to feeding poison, drowning in milk
or burying alive.
Reports also confirm that there are issues of deliberate neglect.
Families often starve little girls by giving them less food than
they need while they over-indulge sons. More so, should the girl
infant fall sick, the family is likely to ignore the symptoms for
often medical expenses for a girl are thought to be a waste of money.
