Petition

TO: The Government of India, The OHCHR, The UNICEF, The UNIFEM, The UNFPA, CEDAW, The EU and The G8.

We the undersigned, strongly condemn the practices that have led to the elimination of millions of girls and women from India’s population, and hold the government of India accountable for failing to protect the lives of its female citizens.

We further contend, on grounds of human rights, that immediate and effective action be taken by the government, through the implementation of rapid action task forces, to halt this femicide. We also insist the government officially commit to a time-line within which the associated practices of female feticide, female infanticide and dowry murders will be effectively arrested through the rigorous enforcement of existing laws and a stringent accountability on the part of India’s hospitals, government offices, and law enforcement agencies.

We further urge international human rights bodies and other governments to join in this effort to persuade the government of India to acknowledge and honor the call of this petition.

Please do your part in siging this petition to help bring a change in this century. Women and girls are humans too, like men and bys!

20 years ago, i spent 1 year exploring india and bangladesh. i have many wonderful memories but the horrendous site of dead babies in the ganges stays with me. the dead babies were all girls. i never saw women in tea shops drinking tea, only men.
during the times i stayed in the homes of people living in india i was told stories of bride burning and dowry crimes and child brides. through my own research i have learnt much more, so many cruel and often ‘banned’ rituals in the name of ‘tradition’. it is a complex and sensitive issue because of other crucial issues, for example, poverty but my belief is that until the status of girls and women is raised, our world will be violent and war torn. India is one of many countries that subordinates women and values girls less than boys but if boys are raised to respect girls and societies are happy for women to give birth to girls then societies can be more peaceful.

Female infanticide or feticides are cruel act the socin
in the civilized society. Let us stop it and
fight for the rights of unborn child (girl).

Female infanticide or feticides are cruel act

Stop cruel act and brutal killing if girl babies

Rising stock market indexes, hosting multi-country commonwealth games, multi-dollar improvements in infrastructure etc will all fail as signs of India’s rapid development into a superpower if three things are not addressed simultaneously – poverty, illiteracy and a need to accord equal respect the girl child.
